Night Place is a series of photographs taken at rural gas stations at night in the American West. This project attempts to remove the context of place by excluding the gas station from the frame. The compositions are lit solely by the gas station's canopy and consist of only the void-black night sky and the markings on the pavement. I am using the rural gas station to critique its status as an American icon of photo history, as well as a deteriorating artifact at odds with the future of the environment.
